MARINE CITY LOVE LOCKS FREIGHTER

The Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce is creating a custom-designed freighter-shaped metal sculpture that will serve as an interactive public art installation in our downtown area at Broadway Park located at 100 Broadway & Water Street.

This installation will allow residents and visitors to attach “love locks” to the structure, symbolizing relationships, memories, and meaningful connections to Marine City.

This project celebrates our community’s deep maritime identity while creating a unique, photo-worthy destination that encourages tourism, engagement, and repeat visits.

To support the creation of this installation, the Chamber is offering a sponsorship program that provides businesses with permanent recognition as part of the project.

The Marine City Love Locks Freighter is more than an art installation, it is a symbol of connection, community pride, and the enduring spirit of our riverfront town.

By investing in this project, we create a lasting experience that will continue to grow and evolve with every visitor who adds their story to it.

Project Vision

Marine City is known for its breathtaking views of passing freighters. This installation transforms that identity into a hands-on experience.

The Love Locks Freighter will:

  • Reflect the iconic silhouette of a Great Lakes freighter

  • Feature an internal crisscross steel grid for lock placement

  • Serve as a permanent, evolving piece of community art

  • Become a recognizable landmark for visitors and residents

Design Specifications (Conceptual)

  • Length: 96” long

  • Height: 33 25/32”

  • Material: Structural steel

  • Interior: Crisscross steel mesh (lock-friendly design)

  • Finish: Powder-coated (weather-resistant)

  • Mounting: Anchored steel base with concrete footings

  • Fabrication Partner: Mechanical Fabricators (see attached quote and schematic)
