  • typically a two story structure with an asymmetrical facade
  • watch for patterns of horizontal, vertical and diagonal boards (i.e. stickwork) raised from the wall surface
  • there will be a gabled roof with decorative trusses and a steep pitch
  • overhanging eaves might have exposed rafter ends or support brackets
  • porches often use diagonal braces
  • a tower is possible and also square bay windows
