- also known as Gable Front and Wing, Vernacular Victorian and Vernacular Gothic
- it is a style instantly recognized as the American farmhouse style
- it was largely built by working class families in towns and countryside without benefit of architect or lavish funding
- the profile is borrowed from Gothic Revival maintaining the steeply pitched roof
- some examples will be largely unadorned lacking any gingerbread or bracketing
- expect two stories
- windows will be tall and narrow with simple moldings
- the facade could be symmetrical or asymmetrical
- where funds permitted, Folk Victorian borrowed heavily from Queen Anne, Italianate and Gothic Revival adding numerous adorments and producing a confusing eclecticism

Chestnut Manor was built about 1878. The design is front gable and the window treatment is a simple set of horizontal moldings flared at the top. The porch design is sturdy and practical and reflects the values of an honest, National Folk style home.
